The truth is, so many factors go into whether a young actor is successful or not. You might be the best person to audition that day, but you just don’t fit in with the rest of the family being cast, or you’re too tall, or you look too much like another actor already in the show. The only thing in your control is to show them your authentic self, at its very best. If you can do this, you win – getting the job would be a bonus.
Young Actors need to find a system that works for them, not a one size fits all model, or one that worked 100 years ago when there wasn’t even any television. A good acting technique is something that is personal to you, that moves with the industry and allows you to celebrate your authentic self, warts and all.
For most Actors, it’s getting an acting job that seems to be the focus of what they do. I get it, I was that actor. From the age of 13, I played leading roles in television and spent 12 years focusing on getting work.
However, in my 13 years experience as an Acting Coach at The Manchester School of Acting, it’s those who take their time, work hard and focus on improving their skills that have the most success.
The right Acting Coach is someone that you feel comfortable with. Who will be honest, supportive and have your best interests at heart. The industry is tough and you need people around you that you can trust.
I am obviously going to suggest myself, but read a little bit about me and head over to The Manchester School of Acting, to get a feel for the style of teaching and look at the alumni.
If you think I’m the right style and personality that you’re looking for in a coach, then take a look at the acting coaching I offer below and get in touch!
This session is designed for Young Actors (and their parents), who are serious about pursuing a career as an Actor.
During the online 1-1, 60-minute session I will spend time working practically with the young actor, looking at their acting technique and how we can build on the skills they already have. I will then chat with their parents about how they can support their child and how they can navigate what is, a demanding industry. Topics may include.
Acting Technique
Self Tape Auditions
A Positive Mindset
Advice on the Industry and the mistakes to avoid
How the Industry works.
This session is designed to give your child the skills and advice to help them be the very best actor they can be and give the parents a better understanding of how to support them. It does not promise that your child will get acting work, no one can promise that, and if anyone ever claims they can get you work guaranteed, then you should run away quickly.
However, I can help them build the skillset they need to go forward and create opportunities to succeed.
This 1-1, 45-minute online session is for those who want to continue to develop their skills after taking the initial “Young Actor and the Industry – An Introduction” course
They can be booked in blocks of 6 or as a stand-alone class. The sessions are tailored to the needs of the young actor. We will work together to develop a solid, personal acting technique.
Actors must have completed the “Young Actor and the Industry – An Introduction” course or have previously trained with me before booking this session.

Your Process
This session is designed to give your child the skills and advice to help them be the very best actor they can be and give you, the parents, a better understanding of how to support them.
Once again, my purpose to always be honest about the difficulties of getting work in the industry. At no point, will I promise that your child will get any acting work, no one can promise that.
Got an audition and need a little help?
A lot of Young Actors feel like an audition is a test of their acting ability.
“Is this good enough?”
“Am I what they are looking for?”
“Am I doing it right?”
If this sounds familiar, then this 20-minute session could help. It will take place on the day before or the day of the audition. We will have a final chat about the script and the mindset that will help to deliver the very best authentic read.
